MAY 2011 LUNCHEON
We gathered this year, the women of Motherless Daughters of Orange County,
at Marbella Country Club in San Juan Capistrano for our fifteenth annual
Mother’s Day Luncheon on Saturday, May 7.
Marbella was a beautiful setting for us as we mingled and caught up with
old friends and met new ones. We had
encouraged women to bring a memento of their mothers to share at a special table
set aside for that purpose, and later we lit a candle and said a few words about
our mom as we did.
We had several new ladies who joined us this year, and it was good to see
them with us to share their stories and their grief.
We were glad to welcome them to our group and hope to see them again in
the future.
We did not have a speaker this year, but shared our thoughts and feelings
together over lunch at our individual tables and after lunch as well with the
whole group.
Then we had door prizes to give out, which included some lovely jewelry
donated by Karen Stoller, our president, and a handmade wooden heart vessel
donated by Jim Driskell, husband of Juanita.
The beautiful flower arrangements put together by Casey Enda were also
door prizes.
We ended the luncheon
with the traditional Circle of Remembrance where we join hands in a
circle, say a prayer, then say our name as the daughter of our mother.
For a lot of us, it may be the first time in a long time that we get to
put our name together with our mother’s name in just that way.
It’s always quite powerful.
Here are some of the pictures from that day:
